Behavioral Health Information

Mental Health is state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.

The Diagnostic Assessments serve as tools to help us know how we can best assist you in counseling. This is an information gathering session to help your provider learn more about your situation and to determine the best course of treatment to meet your needs.

Psychotherapy – or talk therapy – helps clients identify main life stressors, develop effective coping strategies for dealing with stress and adopt healthy living habits. These sessions can involve (but are not limited to): problem solving, stress management, coping skill development, communication strategies, life coaching, and trauma recovery.

We work with children, ages 6 and up, and adults. Examples of issues we address are: Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, Relational Issues, Bipolar Disorder, Anger Issues, Stress Management, Grief Issues, Chronic/Terminal Illness, and all DSM-V diagnoses.

The LISW is unable to prescribe any medications for your mental health needs. However, the LISW may determine you would benefit from medication. If it is determined you can be safely and appropriately treated by primary care providers, you will be referred to a medical provider at TSFHS or to a family doctor of your choice. If risk is determined to be too high, we will recommend psychiatric treatment and you will be referred to a specialist to be evaluated for psychotropic medications.

Just as our Medical, Dental, and OB/GYN departments have sliding fee discounts based on your income, so does our Behavioral Health Department. We accept Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and private pay.

All of your assessments and counseling information is kept confidential. There are a few exceptions to this rule:

  • If you threaten to hurt yourself or someone else, your treating LISW is bound by law to take steps necessary to keep people safe, which may include disclosing enough information to get you the help you need.
  • If you wish to share your information with a family member, friend, or another professional, you may complete a release of information form allowing your LISW to share behavioral health service information at your discretion.
